We have been planning lots of exciting new collaborations for 2023, and we have been leading a fundraising initiative to help realize them. We're super grateful for the $7,288 we've raised out of our Jan 31st $30,000 goal. Today, we are offering another way for you to support our work: from now until January 31, we have increased the minimum price for each item in our bandcamp discography to $25. Under our fair-trade model, this temporary price increase offers a unique opportunity to not only support our work but also increase compensation to our partner artists. We split the net proceeds of each traditional release 50/50 with the traditional artist, and remix releases are split 3-ways between our organization, the remix artist, and the traditional artist. Thank you for your continued support!
In gratitude,
Hatim Belyamani on behalf of the Remix ⟷ Culture collective

Gnawa culture developed in Morocco, with roots in the forcible displacement of people from other African countries. Gnawa music has a role to fulfill in a healing ritual called the "lila" which means "night" in Arabic. A "lila" is an intimate, communal night of celebration that can last for up to 12 hours. It is a safe place for those who wish to enter into a trance, and lose themselves in the hypnotic rhythms and soaring melodies of Gnawa music.

"Our vision of a world based on mutual respect and celebration of our differences informs everything we do, including our financial models, designed to keep the artists and our organization invested in each other's success. We have long considered various models, and we’ve arrived at the simplest and fairest model for our growing family of artists. We pay all of our traditional artists an initial fee, that way, even if our organization loses money on the artist’s releases, the burden is not on the artist. If and when we do recoup our costs and have net proceeds, those are split evenly between the artists and our organization.”
